We still have more work ahead of us! 
Even though we have won the presidential campaign, we need you to help with the upcoming 2010 elections. Our President Elect Barack Obama needs help at all levels - local, county, state and nation.

Florida is still a Red state
Even though Barack Obama won the electoral and the overall vote, we have a Republican Governor and only one person at the state level who is a Democrat - Alex Sink, CFO of Florida. We need to elect a Democrat for Governor in 2010.

There was no US Senate race this year. We have one Democratic Senator - Bill Nelson and one Republican Senator - Mel Martinez, whose term ends in 2010 - this is one seat we have to work one.

In the US House here are the numbers for the upcoming 111th Congress for Florida:
15 Republican seats
10 Democratic seat
Locally we did gain:
Corrine Brown for District 3 - RETAINED!
Faye Armitage for District 7 - lost
Alan Grayson for District 8 - WON! Major defeat over incumbant Ric Keller! Alan is not in our area, but he is in Orlando and still will speak for us.
Suzanne Kosmas for District 24 - WON! Major defeat over incumbant Tom Feeney!

In 2010 we need to find a candidate who can take out Republican John Mica for District 7 - who do you think would make a good candidate?

In the Florida Senate and House here is what happened:
Tony Hill for State Senate Distict 1 - RETAINED!
Linda Myers for State Representative District 21 - lost
Barry Flynn for State Representative District 26 - lost
Dwayne Taylor for State Representative District 27 - WON! and retained retiring Joyce Cusack's seat.
William Smalley for State Representative District 28 - lost
Roberta Acosta for State Representative District 33 -lost

Florida Senate and House has been retained by Republicans by a majority. WE need to change this as all elected in 2010 will have a say in the redrawing of district lines. Currenty the district lines are jurimandered to reflect the best for Republican VOTERS. This is why John Mica goes undefeated in US Congress.

Volusia County Races:
Joshua Wagner for Volusia County Council District 2 - WON! by a slim margin of 88 votes.
Ruth Zimmerman for Volusia County Property Appraier - lost
